Terminology

Automatic Brightness Control (ABC)

A function built within the IIT (Image Intensifying Tube), which controls brightness of the screen. This quality in meant for keeping an optimum level of brightness and protecting the IIT from overexposure to light.

ANVIS (Acronym)

Aviator's Night Vision Imaging System.

Black Spots

Cosmetic blemishes in the IIT. Alternatively can be debris or dirt between the device's lenses. If located within the IIT, black spots can be traced to the manufacturing process, and do not affect the reliability to the device, or its performance.

Blooming (also see "Halo Effect" below)

When the IIT is overexposed or overloaded with light, a very bright image will appear which can also be expressed as a loss of parts of the image, or all of it. This is also known as a “Halo” or “Halo Effect”, when the viewer sees a rounded halo shape around the source of light. Blooming is reduced when using Auto Gated or Auto Gating IITs.

C-Mount

A C mount is a type of lens mount commonly used with cameras and camcorders. The letter "C" is said to stand for "cine", the original application being movie camera lenses. C-mount lenses provide a male thread which mates with a female thread on the camera. Merely to say that a lens is "C-mount" says very little about the lens' intended use. Unlike all other lens mounts, each of which is used for only a single format, C-mount lenses have been made for many different formats, the largest being 4 times as large as the smallest.

Diopter

dioptre, or diopter, in optics, is a unit of measurement used to define eye correction. In optical devices the diopter adjustment can be found as an integral part of the eye piece.

Halo Effect (also see Blooming above)

When the IIT is overexposed or overloaded with light, a very bright image will appear which can also be expressed as a loss of parts of the image, or all of it. This is also known as a “Blooming”, when the viewer sees a rounded halo shape around the source of light. The Halo is reduced when usingAuto Gated or Auto Gating IITs.
